You have done an amazing job deserving of congratulations of, not only me, but everyone at Essex. I have been through my copy and there is delight on every page. I have heard nothing but plaudits from the Essex members, which I trust will lead to healthy sales. How you (and your team) achieved such miracles in the timescale you set yourself, I shall never know. Congratulations on a wonderful production. Tony Debenham (Chairman, Peter Edwards Museum management committee, Essex CCC)
A great balance of text, pictures and other ephemera. It is absolutely superb. One of the best books on cricket that I have seen. Nick Easingwood
An outstanding book. It covers so many aspects of Essex Cricket. Chris Butler
Looks to be a wonderful book, which will bring back many fond memories. My congratulations to all concerned. Vic Hare
Well done to both of you and the people who assisted you. The book is a joy to look at and handle even before starting to read the stories. I was fearing the worst, as many books these days on hobbies and sports are poorly produced, even from established publishers. Yours, however, is terrific. The quality of the cover and paper, the choice and quality of images . . . all that before one even starts on the written contributions.
I have only dipped in so far but already I am impressed by the way that you have checked dates and scores against our memories, so we can be sure most, if not all, actually happened. Of course that comment excludes some of the behind the scenes revelations from players but as far as the matches are concerned, there is a great mix of "Oh yes, I had forgotten about that" and "Really? I hadn't heard that one before", and so on and so on.
Other counties are sure to try to follow your example but they will have to work very hard to equal your magnificent effort.
I recognised one or two names among the supporter stories, and I look forward to seeing them during the season to compare notes and of course discuss the things we wish we had thought of to send in. Tim Knights
Really enjoyed what I have read so far. It’s one of those books that you keep close to hand so that you can dip into and out of it. I saw one or two being sold in the Essex club shop last Friday. I intend to add to the number sold, as I need to get two copies sent to my daughter in Melbourne, Australia. Jon Coote
I must congratulate Paul and yourself on a great achievement. The book is just so well put together. There is a fantastic selection of photos, some of which I recollect from way back when, but many that I have never seen before. To also read recollections from people that I know well is another treat. This is surely the best book that has been produced on Essex CCC. John Michie
The book is brilliant, well done! What a souvenir for any Essex fan. Steve Wilks
I would never normally phone, or certainly not go overboard, but I had to ring and let you know this is one of the best books I’ve ever read. I am stunned at the quality and the quantity. Essex CCC Memories surpasses everything and all my expectations. I am very, very pleased I bought this book. I will encourage everyone to buy it or ask for it as a gift – it will make a great birthday gift or Father’s Day coming up in June. A must-buy book. Stuart Walker
I daren't wait until I have read the whole book, as that would be too long to express my sincere thanks for a truly marvellous production. This is one to dip into forever and a day. A lot of other supporters' memories ring chords for me, some of which I had forgotten over seven decades of support. Great to know it was conceived and brought to fruition in my old home town of Hornchurch (for the first 31 years anyway!). John Milner
Just received Essex CCC Memories. A quick glance tells me it is a fantastic book, well presented and most interesting. I am now beginning a most comprehensive read. Well done and thank you for producing such a great, informative book. Brian Taylor
My wife and I have sat and gone through both copies that we pre-ordered and we are both so amazed with the impressive quality, which is absolutely magnificent. Some lovely contributions. The book will make a wonderful keepsake for all Essex fans and I’m sending a cheque for a third copy! Just looking quickly through the list of some 100 contributors, I can see people that I was also at school with, and some of them I haven’t had contact with for years. I cannot recommend this super book enough. John Bramble
A lovely publication . . . and yes, the first thing I did was look for my bits! I just wish I had written long answers like the others! Oh, well. So glad I got a copy for Dad too. Ed Jones
